Sienná - Q.o.S review

Year : 2017
Genre : Chillout with a Soft Psychedelic tint
Label : Anneis Records 3H50002
Origin : Norway
Official site: > - here - <

Sienná's latest full length effort Q.o.S - the "S" is reverSe - brings deeply contemplative and reverberating pulsations along a chilled demeanor.

Clocking in around the 40 minutes mark, the spin values content quality over content quantity, dressing the experience up into an especially well-varied set of musical rhetorics that give apt opportunities for the artist to paint full fledged-, and quite imaginative visions on.

You'll never know what Sienná is up to, as your host is skilled enough at sound wizardry to maintain you curiosity via exercising the full-value right to administer surprises with considerable frequency, coming to you in the forms of soulfully sculpted-out sonic elements that constantly share the optimums of clear thought and playful-, albeit smartly channeled elegance. Red is the New Black track review

Year : 2016
Genre : Psychedelic Rock with a Doom tint
Origin : United States

"Red is the New Black" is a particularly strong, invasive psychedelic track with a definitive doom tint to it. A somber, massive declaration that has come to me through a review order placed with no additional information attached. "Red is the New Black", and that is that, no band name, no nothing, review it please.

The music itself is situated at the middle of an optimum intersection where the timeless rules - hah - of psychedelia and current production standards meet. The hefty, supra-old school intro guitar jumps you from the speakers like Magilla Gorilla on an otherwisely desolated island, and the ensuing sonic anatomy quickly reveals a type of devotion rendered directly unto the monolithic altars of ironically sly and sinister moods and sentiments, revolving primarily around money. Oh well, money does not make you happy, but it won't make you unhappy, either.

The track bravely explores brisk avenues along bluesy building blocks, while its constant focus/intention remains to ritually kamikaze into the bowels of good old fashioned blight, a dark, dangerous and deliberately heartless territory, which is revealed with picture perfect accuracy through exquisite chord choices and tempo alterations. During these segments, the incomprehensibly uplifting-, nihillistic indifference of Dark Souls - yes, the video game - emerges, symbolic of the somber-, yet imperturbably unfuckwithable attitude that lurks beneath the music as a fueling force.

One can tell that a whole lot of love has been given during the making of this track, as the whole structure is an excellently varied expression of a well-placed curiosity cultivated towards the most delicious components of its very own anatomy. The song eloquently showcases the timeless nature of doom-tinted psychedelia, and you want it.

Wave of Silence - Whirl in the Wind track review

Year : 2016
Genre : Instrumental, Experimental, Massive Ambient, Psychedelic
Origin : United States
Official site : > - here - <

With its track titled "Whirl in the Wind", Walnut Creek based Wave of Silence builds heavily on the concept of massively sound-abundant instrumentalization, arranged into placid sonic forms that are both easy and rewarding to intimately inspect.

Relentlessly introspective while sporting a psychedelic modal tint, the piece seeks out and finds a virtually infinite number of subsequent auditory precedents to entertain the ears and soul with. These optimums are quick to fervently and intoxicatingly ensue as result of the "mere"-, yet quite significant decision to trade the ridigity of structure in, in exchange for a thorough stroll into free form auditory volumetrics that openly and effortlessly thrive to grasp the Original Idea: the Original Idea that even preceded the idea of structure, as a medium to carry the promise of capacity and meaning. I drink your tears in silence

Lyrics:

why would I listen to your
every word, to your every word
when I do understand your silence
what you've been missing so far
could be given by these hands
we could be one through the silence

I see your portal eyes are gates
you've got the one who mitigates
I hold you in silence

reject the shades of the night
get healed now by these hands
I drink your tears in silence

you're wielding impertinent doom
through your every word
but I let them collide with silence
if you do decide
that you'll never speak again
no no never again
we could be one through the silence

I see your portal eyes are gates
you've got the pain that mitigates
I hold you in silence

reject the shades of the night
get healed now by these hands
I drink your tears in silence

no no no no never
darling I won't ever
let you be a bitter soul

baby, I've finished making sense
I wanna hold your face
right between my hands

I see your portal eyes are gates
you've got the one who mitigates
I hold you in silence

reject the shades of the night
get healed now by these hands
I drink your tears in silence

no no no no never
darling I won't ever
let you be a bitter soul

baby, I've finished making sense
I wanna hold your face
right between my hands

Five Townz - Mama Told Me Not To Come track review

The track "Mama Told Me Not To Come" summons a tasteful narrative coalition of Timothy Leary-era soft rock psychedelia and golden era Beatles, although I can image that there are sentient beings AND Beatles aficionados fervent enough to question the implication that the Beatles had anything else than a prolonged golden era. Not too hard to have JUST that when you and Ringo are on so much LSD that you need to maneuver him off the ceiling using butterfly catchers. Five Townz's music is re-invigorated retroid viscera, realized with particularly efficient vocal performances and highly tolerable glam rock affectations. They never go "Elton, you are embarrASSing yourself", while the lead singer is capable to belt out so convincing and powerful - well - melodic jells that enjoy instant approval from mid range master shouters like "teh" Butch Balich or the Peter Steele. '70s playful psychedelic viscera, realized with recent production standards. An immediate recommendation for your listening pleasure. Check out the band at their official Facebook here.

The Yellow Dress - Faint Music Ordinary Light review

Year : 2013
Genre : Soft Rock with a Psychedelic tint
Origin : United States
Official site : > - here - <

This review starts out with a snippet section quoted from the original press release, revealed in Italic.

San Francisco's The Yellow Dress will release their third and heavily-anticipated album, "Faint Music // Ordinary Light," in less than a month. Recorded and mixed, entirely analog, at John Vanderslice's Tiny Telephone Studios, produced by Ian Pellicci (Deerhoof, The Dodos) and mastered by Paul Oldham (Bonnie "Prince" Billy, Sonny and the Sunsets), the album features an 8-person line-up of San Francisco Bay Area musicians, plus guest vocals from several more, mostly from the underground DIY scene in San Francisco and Oakland. The Yellow Dress has been called a "supergroup" several times throughout its 6+ year lifespan, which is appropriate since every member has at least one other local project in which they perform. The band draws much inspiration from the local literary community and often finds themselves performing at events for folks such as McSweeney's and The Rumpus; the name of the album comes from the Robert Hass poem "Faint Music." Preorder digital and vinyl editions of the album from Bandcamp before the official release on January 4, 2014.

KAVA - Shikaakwa review

Year : 2013
Genre : Doom Metal, Psychedelic Rock
Origin : United States
Official site : > - here - <

KAVA brings you the music that fills responsible dads with the relentless urge to hide their daughters in the closet with earplugs attached to their appropriate orifices. This is a take on doom metal that definitely comes from the blackened heart, with an uncompromising determination to offer only such elements of doom eloquence that assume you to be a competent and exigent partner in the music deciphering process. The complexity and compositional/structural base is delightful per installments throughout, while the most prominent directive of what makes doom truly harvest your dopamine levels, is communicated with a pretty much masterful understanding of the involved productional rhetorics. The album is not particularly heavy sounding, - and thank God & Satan for that! - and this, in fact, is the reason why Black Sabbath is so timeless, too. It is not the sound that needs to be heavy, but the "mere" meaning of the sound. You can't substitute the meaning with weight, and, once your meaning is there, everyone will relate to it, you don't need to over-emphasize. OR not always. KAVA understands this connotation, and exhibits its craft accordingly. The music either dooms about with majestic promise of the imminent soulcrush, or, it gets deceitfully spaced out in an almost transcendental fashion, giving you apt opportunity to reflect on the sight the tinkering of decay so willingly offers. "So ecstatically pleasing decay", the Meshuggahs would say. Read on to know more about this spin.

Scan Hopper - Mariana Bridges EP review

Year : 2013
Genre : Psychedelic Soft Rock
Label : Independent
Origin : United States
Official site : - here -

With its newest extended play to date, "Mariana Bridges", Austin, Texas based Scan Hopper offers fresh status reports from the same psychedelic fields the flamboyant group best enjoys hanging out at - OR, hanging down at, see cover art image for the ruthless justification of this even more terrible pun. These new status reports seem and sound to have a more strict polarity embedded into them in the sense that a song either is total relentless anti-brutal afterparty-chillout, - moments of infinity that openly enjoy how nothing is happening in them in a psychedelically nothing is happening, but nothing is happening psychedelically-way, counterpointed by a consequent track that exhibits as intense characteristics as you could anticipate amidst the tools the directional and stylistic principles do allow without breaking the rules of a rabid conceptual acid ride. Only - prepare for the kind of intensity on which even madness rents a place on. What other party is worth being at, correct? Read on to know more about the disc.

Fade to Black - G Street Panorama review

Genre : Classic Rock with a Psychedelic, Doom and Grunge tint
Label : Silver Maple Kill Records
Origin : United State
Release Date : 2013
Official site : > - here - <

You can't simultaneously gain knowledge of a track called "Aliens and Beer" and remain disinterested of it, and US based Fade to Black is doing all and THEN some in their considerable classic/doom/grunge rock charisma power to emphasize this point. The song is a clear initiatory representation of what this veteran formation is all about at first face value - massively guitar centered mid-range axe warfare that borders - JUST borders - on punk in its sonic volumetrics, backed up by a mean, and clearly audible bass presence and adept drum molestation skills that give any decent dope fiend drumma' a run for the next fix.

Luckily enough, the band delivers flamboyant variation in the context of intensity and general musical behavior. The ensemble has a legitimate punch and heft to it whenever they feel like showing off the obligatory granite balls, and they emerge competent/clear/thoughtful throughout the tamer compositions - "The Note", for example -, as well. Unhidden intentions are on persistent display that seek to compliment a psychedelic overtone, armed with an apt understanding of the related criteria systems. This fascination comes to you via a diverse set of various beneficiary and easily accessible iterations, too. The one you hear in "Aliens and Beer" is the Timothy Learian psyhedelia with a tint of doom, while the one you will find in "The Note" is more playful-, fanciful, showing reminiscences with Pink Floyd and a restless variant of Beatles, even. Nah, I'm only kidding with one of the references. Or am I? Read on to know more about the record.

a Project S.N.A.R.E. listening session

Year : 2009 to present day
Genre : Experimental with Psychedelic overtones
Label : Independent
Origin : United States
Official site : > - here - <

Project S.N.A.R.E. is a collaborative effort between various artists, centered primarily around  the sonic gravitational pulls established by the overall musical direction of Scan Hopper - review here and here - yet more emphasis is devoted towards experimental tendencies.

Flamboyancy and a keen readiness to offer clear thoughts through well varied saturations are key ingredients on these unusually eloquent deliveries. The music still is psychedelic quasi-soft rock at heart - heft-rode insanity and gritty distortion power are not on the current invitee list - but the structural elements of the music are simultaneously less/more constrained, courtesy of the smart limitations regarding the mere sonic real estate they are occupying - seldom are the times that a given segment would entertain the fabric for more than a couple of minutes, and the listener's musical awareness is courted skillfully along gentle registers of constant variation.

A given musical space is traded for yet another on a relentless-, yet tame "basis-tunnel", while the element of interconnection between these environments equates with the overall tone of these collective contributions that never lose sight of a massively psychedelic, yet gently experimental agenda. They can live on their own, and they can be assembled to a monolith-experience for the enjoyment of the devoted soulseeka'. Read on to know more about the project.

Scan Hopper - Scan Hopper review

Year : 2009
Genre : Psychedelic Soft Rock
Label : Independent
Origin : United States
Official site : > - here - <

With its 2009 debut release, Scan Hopper showcases its profound fascination with the White Rabbit in the respective contexts of even milder-, yet not less interesting psy-rock rhetorics the second disc is testament of. This initial tendency is once again - such is the nature of retrospect - traded in for a more reckless narrative from time to time, yet, oddly enough, there are occasions by which the band wraps a seemingly perfectly good idea up in 2 minutes or less - as is the case, I feel, with track number 4, called "Notes for the Face (Plumage Rock)", for example. There are numerous other instances on the debut that seems to solidify this impression, and I will elaborate on it.

Despite the two years that separate the two contributions in the timeline of the reality fabric - (DON'T even) imagine the chaos that would ensue were you'd have to listen to ALL songs of the cosmos at once - the narrative similarities in the components of this double barreled psychedelic delicacy are notable and even welcomed. Scan Hopper - Scan Hopper 2 review

Year : 2011
Genre : Soft Rock with a Chillout and Psychedelic tendency
Label : Independent
Origin : United States
Official site : > - here - <

There is something wildly authentic, impertinently original and nihilistically rebellious about if and when you name your second self titled album with a numeric indication of its sequential nature, and this exactly is what Austin based ensemble Scan Hopper did with their 2011 second full length Scan Hopper 2. The music, as noted on the group's BandCamp site, is optimized rather for optimum enjoyment, as opposed of being optimized for maximum loudness paua'. The claim is well supported by the perpetuated rendition of the soulfully realized space/psychedelic/soft/chillout rock you will find on this declaration. The content occupies a narrative musical space between Pink Floyd and the rock traditions of late '60s and early '70s, though veterans claim that if you remember the '60s, you weren't even there. Katrin the Thrill - Evil Eye Charm review

Year : 2012
Genre : Psychedelic, Dark Soft Rock, Soft Rock
Label : Independent
Origin : Greece
Official site : > - here - <

Despite a resilient, young body and the spiritual experience of 1 000 000 years - give or take - contained in it, Greece's Katrin the Thrill is an established presence of entertainment in her home country, while she and her former (?) associates were as close to making a record deal as it is humanly possible on a land Circe reigns at with a soul intact. Not surprisingly : Katrin the Thrill is a highly talented sonic/vocal consortium who radiates a darkened variant of Grace Slick + a tint of Sheryl Crow on top of musical themes and thought-fields that make early Nina Hagen and anytime-Peter Steele content individuals. The aforementioned lamentations are covering about the third of the disc. The major part of it has massive psychedelic leanings. Did you notice the infinite amount of invisible white rabbits on the cover art yet? No? Look harder! Never seen someone who has fully disappeared. Plastic Willow - Lunar Pulse review

Year : 2012
Genre : Alternative Experimental with Psychedelic tint
Label : Dead Sound Box
Origin : United States
Official site : > - here - <

This analysis starts out with a quotation snippet taken from reviewed album's closing sentiments in the booklet.

"Lunar Pulse was created form the idea of life itself, it's meant to mimic life's simplicity. Van Jane Willow, the founder of Plastic Willow, wanted to leave the scene of synthetic voices with his experimental album by combining one take tracks with distorted loops. The aim of this album is to plant the idea that imperfection can still be acceptable, in hopes that one day the seed will grow."

The disc is a fluent-, even radical success when scrutinized from the angles it seeks to offer compliments to. This statement demands clarification, and here it goes : the Lunar Pulse LP seems to be an almost entirely-, uncompromisingly and hilariously depressive release that offers momentary respite only to find perverted pleasure taking it all away a second later. The music is a mixture of abstract-, deliberately and most often threateningly spaced out experimental sonic ornamentics, reigning in the form of toxic radioactive icing on top of clearly identifiable compositional structures that promise no hope for your good mood whatsoever.

The audio data deliberately reeks AND embraces hopelessness and exhibits zero interest in the scant promise of the antitheses of it, - hope is the cheapest commodity anyway - though never falling into the trap of seeking your sympathy for the pain it is under. The album is a status report. If you can relate : bad fucking luck. If not, good-, at least better for you. The Lunar Pulse LP has this rare quality that it remains consequently serious with its radical lyrical themes, reigning content with an image of music that is on the hunt to explore various ways of delicate decomposition, yet never crosses the line of becoming of its own parody courtesy of overtly detailed suffering-history. There are numerous interpretation fields to be found, anyway - more on those later on. Click to familiarize yourself with this contribution.

Chords of Truth - Reflections of Reality EP review

Year : 2012
Genre : Psychedelic Acoustic
Label : Independent
Origin : United States
Official site : > - here - <

Buy it now

Jason Garriotte is the premiere mastermind behind the Chords of Truth enterprise, a psychedelic acoustic project immensely-, smartly-, and relentlessly focused on existentialist observations of all possible reality surfaces, fixated primarily on the one you will have the chance to absorb the project's debut EP through.

The delivery does not only claim that it happens to be an acoustic (guitar) project, it equally takes the liberty to rely solely on the combination of charisma contained in the organic connection between the timeless ringing of the acoustic guitar and between the sung human words. "Angie, 'zat Sunday Mornin'???" Think about a type of exigent bonfire music, which is primordially psychedelic in its rhetorical nature, and, in its musical character. Indeed, the EP reeks the music a prime Timothy Leary is probably ultra-happy with if and when he hears it along a random cosmos, - not to say that he is anything less or else than that in the process, of course - and the inherent intention, the key agenda of the package is to tamely encourage you to explore your inner and outer surroundings with honesty, while the disc also contains the personal model of reality Jason Garriotte is currently cultivating. Mr. Jitters - Multiplicity EP review

Year : 2012
Genre : Soft rock with massive psychedelic leanings
Label : Independet
Origin : United States
Official site  : > - here - <

Dylan Rowe, former bassist of The Matches is the premier mastermind behind the Mr. Jitters project and its Multiplicity EP, a five track soft rock affair with immense psychedelic influences. The music on this disc is a rather interesting "bird" to relate to, - not so with the cover art, it is a human chin upside down with eyes painted on it - and here are the reasons for it : I personally feel the album peaks in super-strongly with the track called "The Road", a beautifully realized-, muscular, elegant soft rock piece with an easy listening anatomy, soaked in top of the food chain acoustic instrumentation. Think of Stone Sour's tender bonfire-compatible deliveries, and you will have an idea of what to expect. As soon as your inner senses are calibrated to the suggested kind of tame soft rock emotional warfare though, prepare to reshape those expectations until they show no similarities to their originators, and read on to find out why.

The other two contributions that are available as the two additional tracks to constitute the effective track palette this review is reliant upon, are less easily decipherable pieces, and it might be so that they refrain from seeking immediate appeal by conscious intent. "Hooked on you" and "Be Alright" both sound to me as deeply personal-, self-reflective circus/clown music pieces with a profoundly psychedelic character, but think "clowny-psychedelic", not "spaced-out-psychedelic." If you have a clown phobia, this release exactly is the last you want to surprise yourself with, because IT has the vibe you are horrified of. Indeed, the EP uses an LSD stamp as the flying carpet, metaphorically speaking. The realization of these two tracks are similarly quite exigent, yet the style they seek to resonate - quite efficiently - reigns beyond the confines of the comfortably expectable. This, of course, is neither an automatic hindrance, nor benefit to the fray. Mr. Jitters' Multiplicity EP has pretty good chances at affecting and leading you towards either instant appreciation, or, into instant bewilderment. Dislike is a mis-reaction, as the music is well made. Do not forget that this review is based on three tracks out of the sum total of five found on the entire album. If you visit Mr. Jitters on Facebook, you will be rewarded by various content-bonuses for a Like, and you can catch the psychedelic soft rock enterprise on tour, as well.

The Dive - The Dive review

Year : 2011
Genre : Psychedelic Stoner Rock
Label : Independent
Origin : Greece
Rating : 8.0 / 10

Greek formation The Dive delivers a self titled monster length that reeks the rampant affection for all things rooted in 69. Give me Woodstock, give me fractal patterns, give me Timothy Leary on a pointlessly large projection device and let's hear how he summarizes and deciphers the reality flow.

The Dive brings you the music that originates from the same character as the music of Jimmy Hendrix is originating from, yet this band shows considerable attentiveness towards the parts of you that are more fond of zoned out/zoned in consciousness exploration, resulting in an aural data flow that has a ripe, peaceful and chilling demeanor as its ultimate face. This does not at all mean that The Dive refrains from assaulting the strings and drums nice and proper on occasions. Intensity IS part of the flow here, yet this intensity is a calm one, too. It addresses the qualities of a raging gas giant, but - fortunately - never the qualities of an incoming cosmic body with mind parasites on board. The Dive utilizes a very elegant and merciful method to create efficient patterns at will that do bring mere time to a still, and they always release you, the listener back into time - fuck - in a sane way. This is successful still music, because it - fortunately enough - wants to be that. Read on to find out more about its main operations, or Plan 9 from Outer Place will commence. It is an actual song title from the record by the way, and also is a retro science fiction film the creators of the record likely dare you to seek for.

The Dive offers a very clever method to zone the listener out, regardless of consent. The basis of the revealed sonic fabrics tend to sound like an efficient start sequence of a more freely positioned riff to ensue, yet, instead of forcing your awareness to catch up to what it thought it will need to catch up to, it gets the mercy, because this "start grid" restarts, and your awareness is sitting in it once again, yet the surroundings - along with the experience - have been adjusted, and you are defined as the enjoyer before you even know it. This technique of expressing the actual statements on top of self-repeating sonic entities of simplistic but legitimate beauty, is key element on this record. The Dive, thank the cosmos for that, not once - nor more times, smartyfartsy - commits the act of self indulgent behavior, and a variation or a sane derivation from the original pattern always reigns stationary nearby, stirring the flux in a gentle-, or, sometimes, in a more pronounced manner from time to time.

The record shows a peaceful and LIVELY face, which is especially interesting to watch, considering the sound character of the release. The roar of the band does sound like that of a good old "let's shatter this puny soul to microshards" doom metal squad, but they choose to articulate majestic statements, instead of formulating the guaranteed promise of impending doom. Even when The Dive gets angry, it is evident that it is just for the fun. You are witnessing a giant entertaining you and itself, and it does not want to harm anything, though it could crush everything it chooses to. But it chooses NOT to, and this is one of the most relevant beauty factors of the record. Funnily enough, the basic vibe this release communicates along, shows similarities with Yob's Atma, but, while the doom metal formation concentrates on the negativistic potentialities of the experience flow, The Dive threads along the neutral and positive interpretation fields, but a very important clarification needs to be made. The Dive is not at all a sonic rendition of an escapist point of view into a reality that serves anything and everything you need to feel yourself comfy in. No. Yob and The Dive and the listener are all aboard the same spaceship into a - uuuuh - mystery, but the Yob dudes anticipate a shitstorm - if anything - to follow up, - and suggest that a proper living being opens its mouth in it - while The Dive dudes anticipate anything else to follow up. Each is a legitimate stance. You, as the listener, either need to take a position yourself, or you can refrain from it, and rightfully so, once you make sure you are the one who missed the spaceship.
