True Nature - You Shouldn't Have To Shout So Loud EP review

Year : 2009
Genre : Post Grunge with a fine tint of Stoner Rock and Dramatic Gloom
Origin : United States
Official site : > - here - <

True Nature is a Brooklyn based multi-rock ensemble with a keen and admitted fascination showcased towards both the grunge ethos of the early '90s and towards black belt level bubble gum rock practitioners like present day Foo Fighters. But all this is on paper - in reality, True Nature has more stoner gloom into it then Foo Fighter ever wanted - because Foo Fighteres never wanted it anyway. The True Nature members definitely pack a six pack of stoner rock, which reigns as one of the most significant hallmarks that valiantly and efficiently distinguishes this band from the 23423432423423432 other groups that to this day harvest their covert excitement from the constant vicinity of unaltered moss-grunge.

What I hear on the disc, is a pleasantly and competently layered experience. On the surface, I find polite, safe, riskless melodic silence molestation along the exact registers I'd expect to be courted when checking out a band with a skillfully telegraphed set of classic era inspirators. The good thing about throwing out a term like "classic era" is, that everyone can feel good about their pathetic tastes. All this though does not mean that the radio friendly songs would lack dignity and heft.

Yet, at the second layer of the complexly presented narrative behaviors contained on this EP, the developments are even more inviting, and not only for your mom and her favorite sex dwarf, but for the enthusiastic snob and for the miserable music critic. Take heed and bear witness to this much more dark and so elegantly menacing layer that also is observable beside the everyday average radio rock fuckaroundery!

With concluding track, "Father", the band ventures to the direct verges of soul crushing saloon sludge metal, - yeah, I think they have just invited a genre, and I'm crediting it for them [or them for it, you feel me]- only to take the promise of imminent void-extermination into Aerosmithesque bonfire-glam, and they manage to assuage the heated iron without you feeling yourself cheated in the process. The reason for this is the following: the chorus is not exactly the outright drunk-lovemaking glam-nonsense you had your 234234th nervous breakdown on MTV to, it has a superb Stone Sour tint to it. He has high talent levels for both. Read on to know more about "teh" disc.

Young Coconut - insufficient funds review

Year : 2009
Genre : Psychedelic Soft Rock
Label : Fauxtown Records
Origin : Canada
Official site : > - here - <

In an attempt to convey the related information of the text I'm about to quote - as faithfully to the original as possible, I will quote it verbatim indeed, but will throw colorful rubber circles into a pool of turmoiling pink liquid in the process. SEE? Here is "teh" data I have received from "teh" - logically enough - s(l)ENDER (man) :

Hi, this is one of my albums, and I'd like you to review it.
Just for fun, a bit of background. I go by Young Coconut and I'm from Ontario.
I'm part of Fauxtown Records, which is an indie label here. What this album is
is my songs, and for each track, I got a different vocalist to tackle to. These singers
are people who are either part of my label, from other bands, or just people I know
that sing (and some people that aren't really singers)... so its kind of a concept album.
Check it out, looking forward to this.

a Project S.N.A.R.E. listening session

Year : 2009 to present day
Genre : Experimental with Psychedelic overtones
Label : Independent
Origin : United States
Official site : > - here - <

Project S.N.A.R.E. is a collaborative effort between various artists, centered primarily around  the sonic gravitational pulls established by the overall musical direction of Scan Hopper - review here and here - yet more emphasis is devoted towards experimental tendencies.

Flamboyancy and a keen readiness to offer clear thoughts through well varied saturations are key ingredients on these unusually eloquent deliveries. The music still is psychedelic quasi-soft rock at heart - heft-rode insanity and gritty distortion power are not on the current invitee list - but the structural elements of the music are simultaneously less/more constrained, courtesy of the smart limitations regarding the mere sonic real estate they are occupying - seldom are the times that a given segment would entertain the fabric for more than a couple of minutes, and the listener's musical awareness is courted skillfully along gentle registers of constant variation.

A given musical space is traded for yet another on a relentless-, yet tame "basis-tunnel", while the element of interconnection between these environments equates with the overall tone of these collective contributions that never lose sight of a massively psychedelic, yet gently experimental agenda. They can live on their own, and they can be assembled to a monolith-experience for the enjoyment of the devoted soulseeka'. Read on to know more about the project.

Scan Hopper - Scan Hopper review

Year : 2009
Genre : Psychedelic Soft Rock
Label : Independent
Origin : United States
Official site : > - here - <

With its 2009 debut release, Scan Hopper showcases its profound fascination with the White Rabbit in the respective contexts of even milder-, yet not less interesting psy-rock rhetorics the second disc is testament of. This initial tendency is once again - such is the nature of retrospect - traded in for a more reckless narrative from time to time, yet, oddly enough, there are occasions by which the band wraps a seemingly perfectly good idea up in 2 minutes or less - as is the case, I feel, with track number 4, called "Notes for the Face (Plumage Rock)", for example. There are numerous other instances on the debut that seems to solidify this impression, and I will elaborate on it.

Despite the two years that separate the two contributions in the timeline of the reality fabric - (DON'T even) imagine the chaos that would ensue were you'd have to listen to ALL songs of the cosmos at once - the narrative similarities in the components of this double barreled psychedelic delicacy are notable and even welcomed. Megadeth - Endgame review

Year : 2009
Genre : Thrash Metal
Label : Roadrunner Records
Origin : United States
Rating : 9.2 / 10

(K)illuminati connotations aside, - Dave Mustaine is a hobbyist -conspiracy theorist, as far as I know - Megadeth's 2009 LP Endgame is one exceptionally visceral statement, and this latter term of "visceral" seems to me as the most essential one amidst the many that reveal the global character of the disc.

Granted, the ideal-, the optimum form of thrash metal probably should be visceral as a thr(e)(a)shold minimum, but, if you are any kind of embracer of the genre, then you know that this is not always the case. Many is the number of the beast, -TUK! - as is the number of things that invite a thrash album to become its own parody from time to time, up to the point on which from this unfortunate transformation reigns evident and beyond the state of being preventable, since it has happened already.

Even THIS album, which I consider a pretty stellar delivery from Megadeth, features Dave Mustaine's trademark cabaret thrash metal in its full anti-glory, but the manifestations of said affliction gets assuaged by such a strong subsequent segment, that the cabaret side of things becomes tolerable, hell, even enjoyable (!!) when contrasted by the immensely eminent hooks the package packs a healthy dosage of. Yeah, there are tamer hooks on display, too, but the idea which permeates the release is something that sound to be unique : it simultaneously CRAVES acceptance, and, at the same time, does not give a FUCK if you give it to him.

It's like - Dave Mustaine would be happy to know that you love the disc, and could not care less if you would not. In other words, the disc embraces its deficits, which come to you exclusively throughout SOME points of the songwriting strategy, as the production is flawless in my book, and I'm pretty sure it is flawless in yours, too. Read on to find out more about one of the quintessential Megadeth releases.
